ASCAP vs Music: A Never Ending Battle Against Greed
To make a long story short, I responded to a comment on an article about how ASCAP was soliciting funds [twitter.com] to fight against what it states are the enemies of it's membership, namely the Creative Commons and the Electronic Frontier Foundation, both of which support a "copy-left" philosophy in regards to "intellectual property", or more specifically, the choice of artists to freely distribute music recordings. To a comment made by Sarah Baird Knight to the article, I wrote a lengthy reply. The full article and comments can be found here [artsjournal.com]. Read on for my reply...
Quotes on Politics From Unlikely Sources...
I've been coming across some great quotes which pretty much sum up my political idology. Without any commentary or fanfare...
Freedom and Liberty in the iPad Age
I keep entertaining the debate on Apple's reign of tyranny over iPhone and iPad applications. Here is my recent outburst comment I made at gawker.com.

I've gone and crafted a discography page for myself. Until I put this together, I hadn't realized how many "releases" I've generated over the years. You can find the Discography by clicking the "Sounds" menu item or this link http://zenasprime.net/?q=node/90. Enjoy! :D
Shadowbane's Dead! Long Live Shadowbane!

On May 1st, Ubisoft will be shutting down the Shadowbane servers for the last time. Xanther, Stray Bullet Games Designer and Lead Moderator posted this topic on both the Shadowbane forums and the SBG forums...
To San Francisco and Back!

Two weeks ago I went to San Francisco for the Game Developers Conference. The flight out to the west coast was longer then I had anticipated, and the time change had my internal clock all screwed up for the entire week, but I got the chance to "visit" a few cities along the way (Denver, Los Angeles, and Chicago on the way back). The conference itself was pretty damn cool. Lots of gamer heads all talking about games, how to make them, why they make them, and anything else you could imagine about the game making industry. Everybody was friendly and in good spirits, which was totally refreshing. I also explored San Francisco proper as far as I was willing to by foot or rail (I didn't have a car). I didn't get to go to all the touristy places but I had a great time none the less.
Snow Day

This week we had our first, honest to goodness, snowstorm this winter. I love snow so I went outside for some snowstorm adventuring and took a few photographs. Even though it was bitterly cold out, I was outside for several hours enjoying myself. I even managed to get on my bike and ride it up to town for some hot cocoa. Unfortunately, I didn't get to go sledding, I totally forgot about it. ;) I also captured two really cool videos that I intend to put to some music. Keep an eye out for them. For now, enjoy the photos!
Moving Along...

Well, I finished up the final Hardwood track today. I'm loading up all the involved files as I write this. Along with the customary .mp3 audio files, I have also provided not only an alternative .aac version, but also .zip files which contain all the artwork (.jpg), Reason files (.rns), as well as the original audio masters (.aif). Please, by all means, use them to create derivatives and pass the results back to me, as I would love to see what happens. I hope everyone enjoys these new works.
The next project I have in mind will be along the lines of old school chill out ambient. You will probably see the first results sometime next week. If I have the time and inspiration, I hope to also include video presentations to go along with each track, much like there were photos that went along with Hardwood.
I also wanted to say that I have also been working on something completely different during my off weeks. If you would like to delve into another side of my creative efforts, please go take a look and let me know what you think.
Enjoy!

New Life

Hi!
While I have registered accounts on some of the more popular social networking websites like facebook and *cringe* MySpace, as well as some of the more focused hosting service websites like YouTube and flickr, I don't like the idea of my data being imprisoned by whatever corporate policy is deemed worthy of the profit motive. Unlike most folks, I own and operate my own, collocated, server box. I don't really need their services outside of connivence and the possibility of excessive bandwidth usage. That doesn't mean I don't like their actual services nor deny their usefulness in this age of exponentially expanding information exchange. I'd just rather do it myself and by my own rules.
I've therefore gone and given my personal website a facelift and a new meaning in life. For a long time I have, for some reason, struggled with what identity this website should have and consequently neglected the domain. I never wanted it to clash with the functionality of zenapolae.com, the netlabel I have been running for almost ten years now, therefore I've always refrained from using it to host the fruits of my creative engergies. This is going to change, I am now going to start using this website to exhibit my creative experimentations.
